Turn a campaign on or off

Deactivate a campaign to stop live leads, clicks and imports while you can still edit and test it, and activate it again when you are ready.

This article shows you how to switch a campaign off and on, and what still works while it is inactive.

An inactive campaign takes no live traffic, but its history keeps working and you can still edit and test it.

Prerequisites

  • An Admin or Developer role. Other users do not see the status controls.

Turn a campaign off from its Overview tab

  1. Open Campaigns in the sidebar and click the campaign.
  2. On the Overview tab, find the Campaign at a glance card.
  3. Click the green Active status chip.
  4. Read the confirmation and click Deactivate.

Expected result: the chip changes to Inactive and live traffic for the campaign stops straight away.

Turn a campaign off from the campaigns list

  1. Open Campaigns in the sidebar.
  2. Open the actions menu on the campaign's row.
  3. Click Deactivate.
  4. Confirm with Deactivate.

Expected result: the campaign moves from the Active tab to the Inactive tab. Each tab shows how many campaigns it holds.

Turn a campaign back on

  1. On the campaign's Overview tab, click the grey Inactive chip. Or, in the campaigns list, open the row's actions menu and click Activate.

Expected result: the campaign is active again at once. Activating does not ask for confirmation.

Saving the campaign editor does not change its status. Only the status chip and the list menu do.

What an inactive campaign blocks

Traffic While the campaign is inactive
Live leads: direct post, ping, post, store-only and Meta Lead Ads Rejected with Inactive campaign
Redistributing existing leads Refused
Click tracking: tracking links, SDK clicks and offer clicks Refused
CSV lead import Upload, start and confirm are refused
Outbound postbacks Not fired for any of the blocked requests

If an import is running when you switch the campaign off, it is cancelled at its next batch. Rows already imported stay. Use the import's revert to remove them.

A campaign that has been deleted answers Invalid campaign rather than Inactive campaign.

What still works

  • Test leads. Leads sent as tests, including from the buyer test panel, are still accepted, so you can test a campaign before switching it on.
  • Inbound postbacks for existing leads and clicks. A CPA sale made last week can still be confirmed, and a buyer can still reject a lead it bought.
  • Editing. You can change every tab of the campaign while it is off.
  • Reporting. Existing leads, clicks and analytics stay as they are.

Troubleshooting

  • Suppliers get Inactive campaign. The campaign is switched off. Activate it, then check it has at least one active buyer and supplier.
  • Tracking links stopped redirecting. Clicks are refused on an inactive campaign. Activate it.
  • I cannot upload an import. Imports are refused on an inactive campaign. Activate it first, or keep it off and import later.
  • An import stopped partway. The campaign was switched off while it ran. Review the rows that were imported, and revert the import if you do not want them.
  • I do not see the Active chip as a button, or the Deactivate option. Your role cannot change campaign status. Ask an admin.
