Create and configure a campaign

Campaigns5 min read

This article shows how to create a campaign and work through the editor tabs so the program is ready for buyers, suppliers, and a test lead. Use it as the tab-by-tab map after you understand the key concepts.

A campaign is the center of each lead program. Fields, distribution, traffic sources, suppliers, buyers, filters, and integrations all live here.

What is a campaign?

A campaign defines what data a lead must carry, who can submit leads, who can buy them, how winners are chosen, and which quality rules apply. Every lead you investigate later belongs to a campaign.

You create the campaign with a name and URL, then finish configuration on the editor tabs. Some tabs only appear when the matching feature is enabled on your plan or campaign.

Prerequisites

  • Admin access to your Datahubb workspace
  • A clear program name and the landing page URL that collects leads for this offer

Create the campaign

  1. Go to Campaigns in the sidebar.
  2. Click + Add.
  3. Enter a Name you will recognize in lists and reports (for example Auto Insurance Brand).
  4. Enter the Campaign URL, the page that collects leads for this program.
  5. Click Create.

You land on the campaign Overview tab. Configure the rest on the remaining tabs after create. Use Save (top right) when you change settings.

Campaign editor tabs

Tab Use it to
Overview Check status, today's snapshot, setup health, and rule health
Distribution Choose how eligible buyers compete for each lead
Traffic Sources Add affiliate channels under your own (internal) traffic
Suppliers Add who posts leads into the campaign
Buyers Add who receives and pays for leads
Fields Define the lead data schema suppliers must send
Filters Accept or reject leads by field rules at several levels
Integrations Attach validation or enrichment providers

Depending on your features, you may also see a Response tab when ping/post style buyer responses need campaign-level settings. Treat it as a follow-on after distribution and buyers are in place.

Recommended first-time order

Work left to right in spirit, but follow this order the first time so Overview health clears cleanly:

  1. Overview: confirm the campaign exists and note any setup warnings.
  2. Fields: define required and optional data before traffic arrives.
  3. Distribution: pick a simple method (Waterfall is the usual start).
  4. Buyers: attach at least one active buyer with delivery and price.
  5. Suppliers: add at least one supplier and copy credentials from the supplier page.
  6. Traffic Sources: only if you use an internal supplier with affiliates.
  7. Filters: add only what you need for day one.
  8. Integrations: add validation providers when you are ready, not before the dry run works.
  9. Overview again: clear remaining setup health warnings before live traffic.

Use Overview health

Overview is your readiness screen, not just a dashboard.

  • Status badges show whether the campaign is active.
  • Today's snapshot summarizes recent volume at a glance.
  • Setup health flags missing pieces such as no active buyer, incomplete fields, or unset distribution.
  • Filter or rule health highlights configuration issues worth fixing before you scale.

Fix what Overview flags before you share supplier credentials widely.

Tips and gotchas

  • Save often. Tab changes do not always imply a save.
  • You can rename the campaign later. Reports use the current name.
  • Do not wait for perfect filters on day one. Required fields plus one buyer and one supplier are enough for a dry run.
  • Traffic Sources are for affiliates under internal suppliers. External publishers usually do not need Datahubb traffic sources.
  • If a tab is missing, your plan or campaign feature toggles may hide it. Configure what you can see, then ask an admin if a needed tab never appears.

Expected result

The campaign exists, the main tabs are configured in a sensible order, and Overview setup health shows a complete basic setup ready for a test lead.

Frequently asked questions

Can I clone a campaign instead of starting from scratch? Yes, when cloning is available in your workspace. Cloning copies a lot of configuration, but you still need to reattach or verify buyers and suppliers for the new program.

Do I need every tab before the first test? No. Fields, distribution, one buyer, and one supplier are the minimum. Filters and integrations can wait until the dry run succeeds.

What does Overview health mean in practice? It is a checklist of blockers and gaps. Clear red or warning items before live traffic so you do not debug missing buyers under real volume.

Should I create buyers or suppliers first? Create the Buyer user in Manage Users first, then attach the buyer on the campaign Buyers tab. Suppliers can be added after or before buyers, but you need both before a meaningful end-to-end test.

Where do I turn the campaign on? Use the campaign status controls (active or inactive) once configuration and testing look right. Keep it inactive while you finish buyer delivery tests if you want to avoid accidental live posts.

What if I only have one buyer? That is fine. Start with Waterfall distribution and a single buyer. Add more buyers when the program needs competition or volume sharing.
