Set up click tracking
This article walks you through enabling click tracking on a campaign, generating tracker URLs, and linking clicks to leads so advertiser postbacks and sold-lead revenue show up on the Clicks dashboard.
Prerequisites
- A campaign already exists (Campaigns → your campaign).
- You know which traffic sources will send the traffic.
- Click Tracking is available on your account (sidebar → Clicks).
- To attribute advertiser conversions, the campaign must have a CPC buyer (Buyer type = CPC). The inbound
cpcpostback requires that buyer id.
Enable click tracking on the campaign
- Open Campaigns and select the campaign.
- Open the campaign settings where Click Tracking is configured.
- Turn Click Tracking on.
- Save the campaign.
Expected result: the campaign can generate tracker URLs and record clicks for that traffic.
Build a tracker URL
- Open Clicks (or the campaign’s tracker / URL builder surface).
- Choose the campaign and the traffic source that will use the link.
- Add the parameters your source needs (affiliate id, sub ids,
fbclidif you run Meta traffic). - Copy the generated tracking URL.
- Place that URL in your ads, landers, or publisher placements so visitors hit Datahubb before the destination.
Expected result: each visit creates a click with a unique click id, then redirects to your destination.
Pass the click id into lead submit
For lead attribution to work, the lead must carry the click that generated it.
- Keep the click id from the tracking hop on the page (query string, hidden field, or your form platform’s token).
- Include that value as
click_id(or your mapped field) when the lead is posted to Datahubb. - Submit a test lead from a real tracked click and confirm the lead shows the linked click.
Expected result: the generating click is tied to the lead. When the lead sells, it counts as a lead conversion on that click.
Wire advertiser (CPC) conversions
Advertiser conversions only attribute when a CPC buyer exists on the campaign. Create that buyer before you ask partners to fire postbacks.
- Open Buyers and create (or reuse) a buyer on this campaign with Buyer type = CPC. This buyer is the advertiser side of the conversion — not a lead-delivery buyer.
- Copy the inbound postback URL for the cpc event from the in-app Postback Guide (it includes the required
buyer_id). - Give the advertiser that URL. They must send the Datahubb click id as
transaction_id, the CPC buyer id asbuyer_id, andpayoutwhen they have it. - Fire a test conversion and open Clicks → the click detail to confirm an advertiser conversion appears against that CPC buyer.
Expected result: the click shows an advertiser conversion attributed to the CPC buyer, and advertiser revenue rolls into click metrics.
What success looks like
- New traffic creates rows under Clicks.
- Test leads from tracked URLs show a Test Lead badge on the click (money metrics stay clean).
- Sold live leads show under lead / channel conversion views for the generating click.
- Advertiser postbacks land as CPC conversions on the same click when configured.
Troubleshooting
- No clicks recorded — Confirm the URL is the Datahubb tracking link (not a direct destination), the campaign has click tracking on, and you are not hammering the same fingerprint (duplicate clicks are suppressed briefly).
- Lead conversion missing — Attribution uses the click that generated the lead. Remarketing / later offer clicks that only inherit the lead do not get the lead conversion. The lead must also be sold (not only received).
- Advertiser conversion missing — Confirm a CPC buyer exists on the campaign, the postback includes that
buyer_id, uses the click id astransaction_id, and uses the cpc event type. - Meta CAPI not firing — Include
fbclidon the original tracking URL so it is stored on the click.
